It turns out google does not recognise Maasi Mara as a single place to tag so I have had to tag our campsite - roughly.
On the way to our first game drive we stopped in at a Maasi village for a tour. We watched dancing, jumping and visited a home before the compulsory visit to the shop! Interesting visit and they were just about to start offering home stays.
On the first drive we avoided any cats but saw elephants, hyenas and lots of antelope. Made our way to the campsite just outside the park.
Left for an early game drive the next day - now known as the day of the cheetahs. We first came across a mother and youngish cub who were unsuccessfully looking for something to hunt. We followed them for a while before heading off in search of lions and leopards ony to find three more cheetahs lying under some bushes.
We caught up with mum and cub twice more during the day - finally finding them with a kill which they spent most of the afternoon eating. Continuing the hunt for other cats Steve found us a serval - only the third he had seen in ten years of coming to the park. Just before we went back to the campsite we came across a lioness and young cub who we saw briefly before they disappeared into bushes with no sign but a startled giraffe.
The next morning was our last game drive and started uneventfully - as so many do. Just before we left Steve heard something on the grapevine and we shot off to find a leopard in a tree with a kill - reminiscent of Serengeti only this time Ana and Bubu got to see it and this one was much less adept at climbing out of the tree - nearly falling and losing his kill on his descent!
That seen we headed to Nairobi and the end of our tour. We all went out for a meal ( not Steph's choice - she wanted to eat in...) We had all upgraded and we ended up staying up late 2.30am for me and later for others even though they had a 6.30 start to head to Moshi to climb Kili (Tanya), flight home (Danielle), continuing tour to Arusha (Felicity, Sophie and Jo).
The first round of goodbyes had begun
