I am now in Colombia having done a lot since the last blog! Primarily a ´PADI´scuba diving qualification and a trek to the ´ciudad perdida´or lost city which was really interesting. The diving was really fun (I saw eels, puffer fish, sea snakes and obviously loads of tropical fish) and has whet my appetite for more marine adventures which may come in handy for my future career! The trek was great fun and I met a really nice group of people, the trekking itself wasn´t too difficult but the heat made it really exhausting and we got through lots of water, but thankfully there was a river most of the way so we jumped in whenever we got the chance! The ruins were great, really big and well preserved and the views along the trek were amazing (see above). To combat the mosquitoes we used this repellant soap called ´nopikex´which is only available here in Colombia and we didn´t get touched once we´d slathered that on! Both the diving and trek went from a town I have been using as my base for the past couple of weeks ´Taganga´which is a small fishing village where I now know lots of people after having been here for a whole! It will be sad to leave but exciting to go on to new adventures. Before Taganga we spent a couple of nights in Cartagena, a pretty old city and then came here via a mud volcano where you can bathe and is very bizarre as you just float around and stay in any position you put yourself in! It is very small so everyone crams in and has a laugh smearing mud everywhere as it´s supposed to be good for the skin, but even if it´s not it was fun! I am now going to spend a couple of days in Bogota before flying to La Paz in Bolivia on the 28th having decide to miss out Ecuador due to lack of time. Me and Rose decided to go our separate ways as she´s forking out to go the Galapagos (which would be amazing but very expensive!) and I am hoping to have time in Bolivia to do a voluntary project at an animal sanctuary hopefully working with monkeys (although I think they´re quite sought after so it may be birds instead)! But I have met other people who have done the project and say it´s very worthwhile if demanding! I have loved Colombia and being along the Caribbean coast but am looking forward to heading inland to some more rugged and strange sights in Bolivia and maybe even feeling cold for once (although I may regret saying that!). Will try and post again soon!
