I finally managed to escape Colombia (is is so relaxed and fun there in equal measures it is hard to leave!) after a fun 3 or so weeks there and after trouble with my flight booking to La Paz which caused me to fly 2 days later than originally planned. Bogota was great fun but I was pleased to leave and get to Bolivia. Bolivia is brilliant, although very poor (and therefore very very cheap!) is it vibrant and beautiful and the people are all really friendly, I haven´t felt hassled as a westerner once which is big change compared to all the other countries I´ve been to so far. I have spent a few days in La Paz where I cycled down the ´world´s most dangerous road´a mountainside road with a sheer cliff on the outside so it was nerve wracking but also fun, but intense concentration was needed as although the road was reasonably flat it was still gravel so the odd pothole could mess it up and going around the sharp corners was a bit scary! I also spent a couple of days on Ísla del Sol´, an island on Lake Titicaca which was very beautiful and our hostel which cost us 4 pounds a night each including breakfast had a view right over the lake with the Andes in the background, amazing! I also went swimming which was refreshing to say the least! We trekked around the island which took about 6 hours and was hard work with the altitude, but nothing compared to my next plan which is to climb Huayna Potosi - a 6088m peak just outside La Paz. I am not sure how it´ll go with the altitude but I´ll give it my best shot! I leave tomorrow, wish me luck!
