Yesterday I did possibly the most dangerous thing i hav ever done in my life. I climbed an active volcano in Guatamala! This means that i climbed a volcano that errupts lava on almost a daily basis in a country where health and safety does not exist!! Last week 2 people actually died on this volcano, and when we were talking to the guide about people being at the top wen it errupts he just ignored the question!! But saying that I still went and as this blog proves, i am still alive!! We had a 2 hour journey to get to the volcano, where Marco (our previous mini van driver) took us. We then met our guide. We started the walk up but i am ashamed to admit that i had to get a horse most of the way up the mountain as I stopped having the ability to breath!! We got to a point where the horses could not go, and where you can start to see the pumice stones that hav been left from past erruptions. Apparently the last major erruption was in 2005, and the rocks we could see were from that erruption. We had to walk on the pumice stones for about 20 minutes to get to areas where you can see the actual lava. My shoes actually started to melt!! The pumice stones were very sharp and i manages to slice my leg and foot open, but it was a lot better than Aprils foot!! There was not an actual rivers of lava whilst we were there (i´m not sure if i am glad about that or not!) but you could go up to a point where you could look down to the lava. Whilst we were up there we also had marshmellows by putting them on a stick and then putting them near to the rocks on the ground to roast them!! That shows how hot it really was! Sumone dropped there stick and it burst into flames almost instantly!! I walked back down the volcano but managed to get stung by a wasp on the way down, it was clearly not my day!! Wen we got back to Antigua, we found april, who has finally had her stitches taken out!! We went for some lunch and then went and bought alcohol for my farewell party! Freddy found out that he had missed his flight so was getting stressed booking another one. Everyone was so tired that we didn´t really do much, we even ordered pizzas in!! I moved to my room for the next two nights as i leave my group and wait for my next trip to start. They are leaving at 5:30 am so we had an early party with us finally going to bed at 10pm!! Shows how hard core we are!! I couldn´t really sleep last night and then woke up with the others leaving any way, so got up, sorted out my washing then went out into Antigua to find a post office to post some stuff home!! It was so expensive!! Nearly $50 to send a small parcel!! I think the stuff inside the parcel cost less!! I bought sum bits like bug spray as Ana was saying that the bugs get worse as we go further south and now am waiting to see wat my new tour leader (Kevin) will be like!!
