Ok we've got a fair bit to catch up on! From Paronella Park we shot up to Cairns for an evening. We knocked up a couple of posters to distribute around town offering our surf boards for sale and then left the next day to go to Kuranda and see a bit of the rain forest. We took a ride on the Skyrail which is essentially a cablecar going up and down the mountain. It was a little disappointing because we didn't get to see much wildlife from it. Lots of explaining our travel plans to curious Ozzie OAPs though! That evening we stayed at Kuranda village and managed to spot some wallabies running around outside the van in the dark.
The next day we decided to take a coffee tasting tour, expecting big things after our wine tour in SA. Lets just say it's not quite the same. The chocolate tasting went down well with Alice but the coffee and tea museum was just plain wierd - who wants to know about different coffee pots from the seventies set to retro pop music?
Next stop was Port Douglas up above Cairns. The weather was pretty poo so we entertained ourselves by driving up to the town of MIALLO, how cool is that? We also went to the Mossman gorge and bummed around the different bars of the town. Best bit was by far and away the Cane Toad racing. Lots of screams and flying toads made for a great evening.
After PD we drove back down to Cairns in order to go out onto the Great Barrier Reef. We booked two different trips out to sample different aspects of the area. The first day we went out to the Franklin Islands where we went snorkeling. Sooo cool! We were swimming next to turtles all morning before looking down and spotting a 6ft White Tip reef shark swimming underneath us! The next day we went out to the outer reef on a boat and both got horribly sea sick. It was worth it though as we got to go scubba diving and touch a Napoleon fish.
Our Australian trip is pretty much up now and next we're off to see some kiwis. Stay tuned...
