After our irritating robbery in Zipolite we decided to go up the coast to Puerto Escondido. We stayed for a couple of days right on the beach rather than in the town itself and had a really nice time. The waves were up (an international surfing comp. was held there the weekend before we arrived), and so we hired boogie boards to make the most of it. What made it even cooler were the small stingrays swimming along inside the waves and sometimes even brushing against our legs. There were also loads of large fish jumping right out of the water further off the beach, probably trying to escape dolphins. The town itself was incrediably touristy and didn't feel very much like Mexico but it was nice not to have to translate the menu for once!
After a few days we caught the bus up to Acapulco, purely so we could say we had been there! Infact it was an alright place although very busy with lots of cars and cool VW beetle taxis zipping around all over the place. We only stayed the one night but managed to catch a show of the famous cliff divers (we'll try and put a video up later). They were seriously brave guys: first they have to swim across a small channel with waves throwing them all over the place, then they have to climb up a virtually shear cliff face, and finally dive off from approx. 40m! It made us feel very ashamed that we don't dive off the 3m board at the swimming pool.
