2 days in Athens and I'm loving greece! Our hotel that is linked with our contiki tour is great. There is a blue pool on the rooftop and a bar. We've met two really friendly Aussie girls from Perth who have been working in America. There are some other nice girls aswell. Today after our exotic buffet breakfast in the morning, we boarded a coach to see Zueses temple. There are only a few pillars left of it and they're so tall. I got some nice snaps on my camera. We also saw the panathenaic stadium that hosted the first Olympic Games in 1896. My favourite site was the Acropolis though. You have to walk up marble stairs to get up there and they're so slippery. We had a really knowledgeable tour guide take us up there. Apart from looking at the ancient ruins, the view is beautiful. You get a panoramic view of the city of Athens. For dinner our whole group went to a Greek restaurant. The atmosphere was great. There were 2 men playing Greek music on guitars and waiters just kept bringing out food left right and centre! We had crunchy zucchini chips, fresh bread and tzatziki, mini Greek salads, a plate of beans and sweet flavoured meat balls just for starters! We sat on a long table an met some new people that Molly and I gave nicknames to. There's Ernie, Evsy, Skinny, Gilbo, Shazza and Websy so far haha. For mains they brought out chicken souvlakis that weren't actually wrapped up. The meat was just on the plate with tzatziki and veggies. Gosh the meat was so delicious with a barbecue smoky grill flavour to it. We also kept getting refils of our bottles of wine on the table. It was such a nice way to start the contiki. Athens is a little bit dirty in the city and reminds me a bit of Thailand. Sipping cold coronas on the beach opposite out hotel was perfect. Mol and I are obsessed with coronas now! I'm actually in Santorini right now as I post this, and will blog again soon.
