We are now in Albany, after a long drive and nice overnight stop at a freecamp called Norman's Beach - next to Betty's Beach!! Back on the coast again with nothing between us and the South Pole! You can tell by the cool wind that's constantly blowing, which is what we arrived to in Esperance. We ended up staying the weekend in a caravan park as, unbeknown to us it was a long weekend in WA and the national park campsites were supposedly full (you can't book ahead). Well, it's been a dusty few days crossing one section of the 'treeless plain' and then enduring up to 38 degree heat as we neared the end of the Nullarbor at Balladonia. We left Ceduna and drove the bitumen Eyre Highway to the 'dot' of Nullarbor, stopping at the 'Head of the Bight' to view the amazing coastline of the Great Australian Bight! After spending almost 2 weeks exploring the Eyre Peninsula with its amazing coastline, farming communities, 'Misery mountain' and Anxious Bay, we have arrived on the edge of the nullarbor at Ceduna. Alf has been able to celebrate his birthday here with a seafood treat and we've caught up on washing and shopping ready for our trip across the nullarbor (meaning a 'treeless plain'). All we can say is 'Wow' after traveling up the west coast of the Eyre Peninsula. This side of the peninsula is so different than the east - towering cliffs, rugged coastline, wild seas, remote beaches, white sand dunes and an abundance of birdlife.
