A brief stopover in Carnarvon enabled us to leave the van for the day and explore the coast just north from Quobba Point to Gnaraloo Station. The Quobba blowholes weren't 'blowing' as the seas were quite calm, but this area has claimed a few lives of people fishing off the rocks - they even have a huge sign as you drive in saying 'King Waves Kill'! Heading further north, the landscape has become more desolate with only a few roadhouses and stations inbetween. However, the scenery can change suddenly from the desert country to amazing rugged gorges and pristine coastline with white beaches and clear waters. We've seen emus crossing in front of us, turtles and rays swimming below us, big red kangaroos frightening us on our walk and the most annoying bush flies and march flies you've ever seen!!!! Kalbarri - a wonderful little seaside town with such a diverse landscape surrounding it! We have settled in for our house-sitting over the Easter period while the owners, Jamie & Di have gone camping for 10 days.
