Arrived in Arequipa after another hideous night bus journey and immediately went to the laundry - after about a week of not being in one place long enough to do any, it was so nice to have clean washing! Simple pleasures. Then went out to breakfast in the Plaza de Armas - it was so pretty with loads of lovely places to eat. Over the next couple of days we went the the Santa Catalina convent, a convent where the rich of Arequipa used to send their daughters - it was more like a village than a convent. We also went to the ice princess museum, which contained a girl sacrificed by the Incas and frozen in the ice, so still in really good condition. Unfortunately the famous girl, Juanita, was not there but we saw another, Sarita, that was still in very good condition. Really interesting if slightly creepy. In Arequipa, I also discovered the bakerys, eating far too much cake and pastries. I also found the only really good bread I´ve had since I´ve been in South America. Overall, a really good, relaxing couple of days.
