Arrived in Zell Am See after a long and hot ride.
It wasn't long after leaving Vienna that we started to ride alongside forests and glimmering lakes with the majestic mountains rising high in front of us. The lakes and rivers we rode alongside were glacier clear and sparkling cold. We are always amazed by the mountain scenery and views in the summer time; the lush green grass of the low alpine meadows slowly turning to jagged mountain faces. The sky always seems far bluer than elsewhere as well.
Today we passed our 5th British car since leaving Rotterdam almost 4 weeks ago; I was certain that riding here we would start to pass more and more but not yet, we have finally arrived in the territory of bikers!
Our Pension is very clean and once again we have a large suite with a balcony terrace with views out across the lake. After watching the boats barely moving across Lake Balaton these here are taking full advantage of what little wind there is and are zipping along at quite a tilt and pace!
The resort has a lot of what looks to us like clients who originated in an Arabic state; a number of restaurants and pedalo people have signs purely in Arabic. We have noticed before on our travels that certain resorts attract and provide for certain communities. When we have visited Zermatt there is a high proportion of Japanese writing on display for those international customers; St. Anton attracts many Orthodox Jews and presumably here there clients consists of certain ethnic backgrounds.
We stopped for a Weiss Beer and a cake in one of the lakeside cafes; Colin asked the waiter(or owner?) whether there were any home made cakes left, the reply was that there was and what would he like, to which Colin replied "surprise me!". The waiter entered into the spirit of things and did indeed bring Colin a cake. When the waiter came back to collect the empty plate he said "it was a shame that Sir hadn't enjoyed it!"
We will probably go back there to eat later as they have 'live music- nice not loud' their wording!
Coin is now planning our hike for tomorrow, I feel it will be a long one, on the upside though there is an advert for a masseur here in the Pension so all might not be lost!
