Hello again,
Just before Christmas I was treated to a Membership with the Sydney Thunder Cricket Team who participate in the KFC T20 Big Bash League, which is a twenty twenty competition that runs amongst eight teams which include the Thunder, plus Sydney Sixers their rivals, Brisbane Heat, Melbourne Renegades, Melbourne Stars, Adelaide Strikers, Perth Scorchers and the Hobart Hurricanes from Tasmania. I went to my first match before New Years and went to another on New Years day and the atmosphere at the ANZ Stadium which was the former Olympic Stadium was quite full with around 11,000 people most match days. Being a member entitled me to my own seat plus a members pack and a pass to get in to the Members Bar, which has a great vantage point for watching the game and also offers the chance to meet the players after the match.
For the first game I took Cristian my Spanish Flatmate to his first ever cricket match, so whilst watching it he was learning the rules of twenty twenty very quickly and soon understood everything that was going on, I believe he enjoyed his first match of cricket and has gone back to Spain a true Thunder Fan! #Overseasfan!
For the game on New Years Day I took my Korean flatmate Kim to his first ever cricket match, and it didn't take him long to start cheering and shouting for the Thunder to do 2 runs or 3! Kim was also taken aback by the Thunderettes who are the cheerleaders for Sydney Thunder, and he was pleased to hear that we would be meeting them after the game at the Members bar. Once the match had concluded we headed to the Thunder Members Bar and had a beer whilst chatting to the lovely Thunderettes and one of them was called Anna and originally her family was Wales and believe it or not were from Haverfordwest which is only 15mins from my house in Treffynnon, I believe she still has some relatives there. Anyway Kim loved his experience at the game and is going home with a few signed memorabilia to keep to remind him of his time at the cricket!
Take a look at the photo's and you'll see a very serious Kim posing with the Thunderettes!
