Mekong Delta

Our first trip was to the Mekong delta in south west Vietnam. After a few hours in the bus we got on a boat and sailed across the massive Mekong river, visiting some floating villages, unicorn and phoenix islands and getting off on turtle island where we had some food and listened to traditional music being performed.

The best part of the day was when we changed boats to some small rowing boats and cruised up through the beautiful natural mangrove canals. Also we got to mingle with the local villagers and try on their traditional round pointy hats and learn more about their culture and way of life. Later we visited a honey farm and a coconut sweet factory, which was actually a small family making coconut candy.
