We spent the night at Yulara after meeting up with David and Julie Bourke and Barnie and Lyn Baxter all from Portland. It was freezing once again even though we had a nice fire. We didn't have power here so this morning was not nice. It was below zero again. However it doesn't take long to warm up so by the time we drove out to The Olga's, I was stripping off the layers. A positively divine day followed. After a walk through The Olga's we left in convoy for Docker River. A very pleasant and sometimes pretty drive with ranges either side of us. We had a bit of a scare with a strange squealing noise coming from under the bonnet. We pushed on after some deliberation and at some point in time over the next 50 k's or so it stopped and has not returned. The road conditions are good so far with not much corrigation at all so happy about that. We stopped at Docker River to get fuel to find the store shut. A nice guy went and found the guy who runs the store and he came and opened the locked bowsers for us. He gave us some information about camping out at Giles weather station. Since we had a dodgy vehicle we lead the way and did not see the sign for Giles and went straight past. After driving 30 k's further we eventually stopped and asked where it was. We had to drive back 30k's to the previous town. Eventually we found the Baxters and the Bourkes camped on the side of a road not far from the weather station, and joined them in time for drinks. The Baxters are not happy with their new van as we haven't struck any bad roads yet and a lot of things seem to be falling apart. They are bitterly disappointed. We are going to go to the weather station in the morning to watch the weather balloons take off. Saw lots of feral camels today along the way and some dingos. In fact as I write this we can hear dingoes howling in the distance. We have all now had dinner, wine, tea and cake and now time to call it quits - goodnight!
