We are excited to be heading home. We quickly pack our belongings and head to 'Tosca Blue' for breakfast. It is cute wee cafe with great coffee. Emily has her favourite breakfast, scrambled eggs. She cannot get enough of them!
We do a spot of shopping in Hamilton before hitting the road. For the last time on this trip we pop 'Crowded House' into the CD player followed by 'Worlds Greatest Kids Songs'. We sing along with them as after thousands of kms on the road we know all the words!
Leaving Hamilton we go past paddocks of sheep. There is no mistaking we are in sheep country. This soon turns into a sea of bright yellow canola fields. Just spectacular, we cannot get enough of this scenery.
We stop for lunch in Ballarat at 'Sweet and Savoury'. It is a beautiful day and the lady tells us we should go down to the lake for a picnic and the kids would love the playground. We do not have the heart to tell her that we are eating their beautiful food on the run as we are keen to get home.
We are excited to see Melbourne in the distance but not so keen on all the traffic and traffic lights!
Things we have learned from this trip.
1. There is no limit to how dirty children can make a car seat. Just when you think it could not get worse they find some random piece of chocolate.
2. There don't seem to be any wild kangaroos left in Australia. 60 days in the outback = 1 live hopping kangaroo.
3. A speed limit of 130 km works.
4. 80 days of sunshine is not boring.
5. Mount Conner is not Ayers Rock.
6. The Northern Territory is not a nanny state.
7. The best cafes are at the botannic gardens.
8. A cabin in the outback which is basically a converted container costs as much as a 5 star hotel in the cities.
9. If you have no poles in a tent you cannot put it up.
10. Sunrise cruises with kids work better than sunset cruises.
11. Mark likes to do things, I like to see things, William likes to watch things and Emily likes to eat things.
William learned that sleeping in a tent is fun because you make friends in campgrounds.
Emily learned to walk.
That's all for now... Adios. It's been a fantastic journey.
