On the day we left Bendigo the sun finally came out and stayed! Never to mind, we really loved our time here.
We stopped at Kerang for a picnic lunch. There were ibis's everywhere trying to steal our food. William tried chasing them away but they weren't deterred. We even found one pecking at the food bag trying to make a hole in it!
We arrived in Swan Hill around 3 and checked into a camp ground on the Murray. We were keen to use our tent and so decided to camp. Probably not the wisest decision we've ever made! We stayed 2 nights and both nights the temperature got down to about 2. Now that's all well and good if you stay in your bed. However when you have to get up to go to the toilet or for children it's pretty darn cold. Also, it's not pleasant to stay up when it's so cold so we were all in bed at 7:30. On the plus side the facilities were spotless and they had a family bathroom with a large bath, separate shower, 2 sinks, toilet etc... Better than most hotels and worth getting out of bed for. 2 cold nights in the tent though was plenty enough so we're going to put the camping on hold for the moment!
We spent one full day in Swan Hill and again lucked upon some great food at Riverside Cafe. Mark had the tasting platter 'paddock to plate' and I had zucchini and corn fritters.
Next stop, citrus country - Mildura!
