Day two of the Inca trail was a massive struggle as I felt ill all last night and we had six hours of uphill walking.
Feeling ill I had no breakfast and therefore paid the price with no energy for the rest of the day. Abigail had eaten breakfast but the constant steps the wound through the forest were even still an exhausting and difficult trail. With numerous stops upon the way, we rejoined the rest of the group which we had dropped off from, for a sandwich. Being told the next stage was dead woman's pass and very difficult we elected to consume anything with sugar in for an energy boost. It worked perfectly as we flew up the next stage taking thirty minutes off the expected time and were left with a beautiful surrounding view as we were sat at the summit of a mountain.
As more of the group joined us in stages, except the American trio, we took a big group photo and set off to camp and food. It was all downhill, slow and steady and still not feeling great our progress was gradual. Abigail had a lot of patience with myself towards the end where I had burnt out, but wear it and collapsed into our tent.
The group had bought a couple of bottles of rum which had all been finished by the time we went to bed. Our tour guides shared some "super cool stories" of their experiences as well as some not quite so funny jokes. Everyone gets along which helps to make the group conversation flow. With one couple being on their honeymoon and also someone's birthday the chef even managed to make a cake as well as a starter and main course for everyone while being in the middle of no-where. Tonight is supposed to be the cold night, but we have had a nightcap of rum and the tents seem really warm so we think we will be fine.
