Having seen Angel Falls at the start of our tour we were really excited to see Iguazzo Falls to compare. The two are completely incomparable but equally beautiful.
Starting the day in a coach with Mark, a German couple, Jasmine and Jess the day hit the right note from the off. Being a small and young group we all joked around about where we were from although not quite so funny for Jess. Being American she had to pay $160 in tax just to enter Argentina which the rest of us didn't.
An added stamp to our passports and an extra country to our list we were dropped of at the national park. Our guide lead us to a train and then a walkway out to the water. On the way to the falls he pointed out tortoise, catfish, jays and crocodiles as if a zoo not the wild.
What the walkway took us out onto was breathtaking. It was called the devils throat where the shear power of the waterfall had you motionless as you looked into it. Numerous bigger and more powerful drops were joined by smaller narrower ones all combining to make an awesome and very wet view. Not wanting to leave, we had to pull ourselves away after a whole to continue with the day.
We were then lead along another path above the waterfalls showing how big the total of falls are and gave us another perspective to see them from. The final view of the day was equal to the others, called the lower route. With another walkway but at the bottom of the waterfalls looking up. The grandeur of the falls were unbelievable and completely different to Angel Falls.
Angel Falls is one long narrow fall looking like it is descending from the heavens through the clouds. Iguazzo is shear power and beauty, not matching Angel Falls in length but in mass and awe equally as impressive.
Not wanting to go again, we had enough time to sit and be surrounded by inquisitive raccoons which seemed to apparently wander around the park causing mischief.
The final part of the tour was the three corners where Argentina, Brazil and Paraguay meet. We were severely underwhelmed with the monument so jumped back in the van choosing just to remember the falls.
Once back, and knocking up only our second cooked meal, we had a quiet night in with the group. Drinking beers, whiskeys and caprinihis and arranging our walk to the Brazilian side tomorrow.
We did forget we had invited Jess to our hostel from hers down the road when we all went to bed but it appears she got home safely anyway.
