The local bus took us back to Santa Marta, we got out in Santa Marta not really knowing where we were, think we were supposed to stay on the mini bus. It turned out okay though as we got ourselves great Colombian footbal jerseys and got a pair of new sunnies. We got on the next bus to the big Exito shopping centre and back to Dreamers where we made lunch/dinner together and just chilled.
It was so sad saying good-bye to the last of the chicas bonitas crew!! With a heavy heart I got the taxi with another Brazilian girl of the hostel to the Santa Marta Airport. Interestingly the airport was on the shoreline and had a pretty view of the sea. So off I flew to Bogotá. From the airport I share a taxi with the Brazilan girl again, into town this time. I booked into Fulano Backpackers, a new trendy place.
It was now time to get my hair done at Lo Rojo and for a mani and pedi at Colombian prices...love it! I was all glammed up and ready to impres
There weren´t that many people not giving me much distraction of the fact that I was leaving South America soon. I met some Australian guys whom I played a game of pool with and decided to call it an early night.
Up early for breaky and went on a 5 hour city bike tour with a German and American guy. We went to the Gold museum with a local guide, was really interesting. We then made our way to the cable cars to the top of the mountain with the best view. We got there at day time and also saw the transition to night time and thus the best view of the city lights and the Colombian flag lit up on the Avianca building for the world cup. It was my first time on the transmilenium bus service and was rather efficient getting back to the hostel.
Fulano caters for business people too and often hosts gigs...tonight was oe of the gig nights and we heard a jazz band that made it 2nd runner up in the Colombian music competition...the "Fatso Boys". They were really good. After the band the salsa and regaetton ) winging the came on and it was great dancing.
I had to get my taxi at 4:30am, so with 2 hours sleep in the bag I made my way to Bogotá international airport. In true Colombian efficiency it took one and half hours to check in, the flight was delayed and it took
an hour to go through customs and security in New York's JFK airport. I made it to the Wingtips lounge in a good half hour clear of the start of the Colombian/Uruguay game. An American fight Steward and a Mexican lady joined me in watching the game and were very quickly persuaded who the best team was and therefore were delighted too when Colombia won. The flight steward also planted a few seeds for me to potentially go in that direction.
It was the moment I was dreading...time to leave South America had arrived...but I was looking forward to seeing old friends in England.
Even though I was troubled leaving the continent...I have been so fortunate to meet and loved travelling with such exceptional people! I am pleased though to know it was not "good-bye" but "see you later...somewhere in the world".
