DAY ONE - IT BEGINS
After a long flight we touched down Wednesday morning. Nath had never flown long haul before and was very impressed with the inflight entertainment, especially the socks that came with the blanket and pillow. "What are the socks for?" he asked. "Your feet" replied Ed.
A little old taxi driver took us to a hotel (we had nothing booked, having only had four months to plan) which was quite lucky as the only three words in English he could say where "Hello, OK, and the N word".
On the night we found our way to one of the two main night life areas. In our first bar there was a huge, real bar brawl which involved a big Chinese guy, his mates and about 12 bar staff. The police looked on as the big guy whacked the bar staff with a metal bar and any chairs he could find. Beer was cheap though.
We had been told "Nee how" was 'Thank you' in Chinese. All night asking locals for directions etc I would end with "Nee how" and everyone smiled or laughed. Found out later Nee How means Hello.
Went to bed late and all three of us had a massive sleep.
