The previous night at the port briefing the Cruise Manager said it was going to 35 today. Not surprisingly when we went out it was raining (the promised 35 would come a couple of times in the next few days). Anyhow morning tour in the rain up to the cathedral and the attached residences. Interesting to note was that these residences are shaped like an L with the intent to build a 3 wing to make a full U, however the money ran out and what you can see are the corner blocks still awaiting the next wing sticking out of the building.
Bamberg is one of the few cities in this part of Germany that did not feel the full weight of Bomber Command or the 8th Airforce durning the Second World War so much of the buildings are still original with some dating back to the 14th and 15th centuries. Apparently much of the recent 3 Musketeers movie was filmed here and not at Versailles where it is actually set.
The afternoon was a brewery tour. Weather was now great and so was the beer. Anita came along to so I ended up being faced with drinking 6 pints of beer and a meal of sauerkraut and bratwurst. Needless to say I wasn't that hungry at dinner time, which happened to be the Captain's Welcome dinner, all 4 courses of it.
