After our night out in Chaing Rai, we had a pretty decent lie in next day as our only plan was to get the 2-3 hour bus too Chaing Khong, where we would stop a night before getting a slow boat to Loas.

We arrived in Chaing Khong about 3, the place only had really one main street, which didnt have much, but our hostel was brilliant and overlooked the river. We had a really good view, we were told we could go and swim in the river so we headed down pretty much straight away, well after one of the owners told us a story about the history of bean sprouts and the chinese would grow them on there navy boats to help prevent scurvy because of vitman c where as the western navy's kept losing people to the tragic illness. See still learning things while I am here! Anyway we were just stepping into the Mekong River when to our surprise about 15 monks aged between 12-16 came running in and doing back fips and stuff, we got talking to two monks Phil and Ben who were really friendly and enjoyed hearing about Engand. And when we got back the owner began to tell us more things about monks, one being the young monks have 8 rules to follow where as a fully devout monk has around 237 rules to follow. Most of the younger monks are apparently there so they can get a decent education or they have behavioural problems.

That night we went to an all you can eat cook your own barbeque which was pretty decent but decided to have an early as there wasn't any bars and we had to be up the next day at 7 to get the slow boat to Luang Prabang, Loas. But we managed to squeeze in a cheeky game of draughts, i lost again, but i am getting better and we were listening to the worse karaoke I have ever herd coming from Loas over the river.
