Hey folks
Sorry for the delay, the computer in Singapore was rubbish and then I have been busy flying to Cairns, Australia.
But anyway here is the story of Singapore. We started out by getting a night train from Kuala Lumpar to Singapore, this was brilliant, the train was kitted out with beds And the bed was one of the comfiest beds which I have had on my travels. The boarder crossing was also a piece of cake compared to others which we have had to encounter. Then we were met with a task of catching a Singapore bus to a monorail station, getting a monorail to the area where are hostel was situated and then walk to the hostel. We must have been getting experienced at travelling as we did this with no problem what so ever. We checked in, but couldn't get access to our room until 3pm. We nipped to the common room, checked our emails had a shower, chilled out and then explored Singapore, we went down Orchard Road which was full of designer shops like Armani and Gucci. Me and Earl were in our element. Not quite, I wanted to go and see American Reunion so we went to the cinema and booked tickes for the next show. We had time to kill so we decided to go for a cheeky pint. Unfortunately we didn't have one, the place we asked gave us a quote of 10 english pounds a pint. We decided to go the supermarket and get a coke. We went back to the cinema, I loved American Reunion, it was awesome. It was no surprised I loved it though as I love the whole American Pie series (apart from the band camp ones and naked mile which went straight to DVD) Anyway back to the point, we went back to the hostel took our bags to the room and had a bit of a power nap. We then got up, got ready and hit town, we went Bugis street first then down to Clark Quays. The beers were pretty pricey, probably about the same as England. We went in one place where I tried 6 guest ales, Earl just had a pint of Chocolate beer. From what I remeber I had a choclate beer, rasberry beer, oatmeal beer, a white rabbit, steam beer and the other was something gold, I can't quite remeber it. I was drunk.
The next day was Earl's last day, so I named it appropiatley 'Earl day' and said we could do whatever he wanted, until 10pm when I wanted to watch the football. Earl declared the beach as his choice, I was cool with this, we got up had our complimnetary buffet breakfast which included rice and pasta. We got up early for breakfast so decided to have another hour in bed, unfortunately this ended up being several hours for Earl and we never made the beach. When Earl got up he got his self sorted for his flight the next day, then we decided to go to Chinatown where we went in the tooth relic temple and also into Little India, which was mental. There were no women about. We made our way back to the hostel stopping off at the supermarket to get pre-drinks for the night, one bottle of wine and 6 beers each. And I found hooch, a drink I haven't tried since I was on holiday in Cyprus in 1996 when I beeged my Dad for 2 weeks to get me one, on the last night he gave in, i had one sip and hated it, I think my sister must have finished the rest. This time around though I can say that I thoroughly enjoyed it. We drank, our first 6 pack of beers then opted to go on the wine. But we had made an error we had purchased wine with a cork. We had no corkscrew. After asking for a cork googling ways of undoing a wine bottle with a cork without a corkscrew and trying a few of these techniques, we eventually pushed the cork in using our room key, a marker pen and a normal pen. It was quite a simple procedure really. we played flip cup with half a bottle of wine each. I won keeping up my undefeated streak at Flip cup. We then went up to the roof terrace and we ran into a German couple from Dortmund called Stefan and Sandra. They were nice, we played drinking games until all the drinks had gone and it was time for football. Our taxi driver Hong took as to Gayland no idea if it is spelt like that, but that is how it is pronounced and ironically it is the red light district of Singapore. We went to a pub with the biggest big screen. We had a singapore sling, the germans were feeding earl whisky which I put in his pint. QPR scored twice, I went mental each time, dancing around the place, lifting Hong up, accidentaly hitting Stefan in the face when celebrating. It was good times until Man city did what United do to so many teams and scored 2 goals in the dying moments. I was heart broken. The Germans and Hong went home and I put my misery to one side, as it was Earl's last night, we finished our drinks then headed out into the night where we met a Singaporean man, I couldn't understand his name so we just decided to call him Tony. I found myself at the controls of a digger, sat in a wheel barrow and trying to get a hug from a prostitute, none obliged. With not much happening in Gayland and Tony just wanting to sell us girls we headed to Clark Quays, we went to a mexican bar, then I found myself in a fountain and a bush, not in that order. I was very drunk. So was Earl so we made our way back to our hostel, where I showed the receptionist my reindeer pants.
It was a messy night. I felt for Earl as he had to be up at 7 to go to the airport. He managed it, he woke me up we said our goodbyes and wished each other luck. I then went back to bed where I slept for ages. I woke up and not wanting a dead day decided to take a bus tour, it was ok but they took us around Little India and Chinatown which I had already seen and explored. There was good sights which I saw though the famous Raffles hotel who invented the singapore sling cocktail, and the four chopsticks war memorial statue. I had arranged to meet Sandra and Stefan that night for a few beers but they never turned up, bloody Germans! I'm not sure why, maybe our drunken antics or maybe because they had better things to do. I was disapointed though as I had cancelled plans to go to the night safari for meeting them and by the time I realised they were not turning up, it was far too late to go the night safari. So I just had a steady night in.
The next day I had a few hours before my flight so I had breakfast and then did my own little walking tour of Asia taking in sculpture square (I only saw one sculpture) a couple of temples, chimes - a church turned shopping centre and night spot, a cathedral and the church of st joseph. My walking tour ended at the Singapore flyer. Singapore's answer to the London Eye. It is the world's largest observation wheel at the moment standing at 165 meters above street level, but I have herd that there will be a wheel erected in Beijing, China that will top of the size of this. It was ok, as I did when I went on the London Eye, I chose a time when the weather was pretty cloudy but I still got to see some good sites including the worlds only floating stadium. I made my way back to the hostel where I chilled out until I had to go the airport.
So Asia is now over, Earl has now left me, it feels a bit like I have my arm missing. We had our ups and downs, mainly ups. But I'd like to thank him for sharing such an epic journey throughout Asia where we had a bloody quality time and experienced so much. Maybe the only word that feels appropiate to describe our time in Aisa right now is mental. So anyways onwards I go with my Australian adventure, I will update you when I can, but it has already been quite mental.
Speak soon and take care
Adi
