Not time for breaky in the morning. Up and at em around 6am.
Picked up from out the front of the hostel and taken down to the wharfs. Once on our tour boat we were greeted by a Peruvian flute player that blasted some awesome tunes. I was really excited for the day , weather was great and I'd heard great reviews from people I'd met previously.
What I still can't wrap my head around is that lake titikaka sit 3813m above sea level!! And is one of the biggest lakes in the world... It was created through the crashing of tectonic plates and it is really hard to describe how big it is without being there... Sometimes actually looked like you were in open ocean! The lake is that BIG!!!
Our first stop was to the floating islands. Reed constructed islands inhabited by the Uros . One of the last surviving still nomadic races (although not entirely nomadic anymore) speak there only language and have completely made these islands themselves. Really amazing. Got a demonstration of how the construction process works and it really is quite amazing! Their boats they use for transporting are also made from reeds. They take one month to make and last about 6 before they rot and need replacing.
Visited two of these islands before boating it for a good 2hrs to the isla tequil. This amazing island has the most spectacular views of the lake and you can even see the snow capped mountains of Bolivia from certain points! Really quite stunning... Had an amazing lunch of fresh steamed trout with a spectacular outlook over the lake. Fish was delicious. Napped pretty much the whole way back. Headed to the hostel to get sorted for my big bus to cusco. A bite to eat with Rorey and few guys from the tour then off to the bus terminal.
Big group of brazilians were from that days tour were on my same bus so was good to hang with some friendly familiar faces :)
