Arriving bang on beer o'clock we were eager to find somewhere to settle and kick back on this amazing part of isolated coast.
Some friendly locals met us and called around to help us find a place to stay. Bear and Bez minded the bags while me and mark jumped in the tray of the ute and took off down the road to suss out or options. The first was an amazing little villa on the beach - literally on the beach! However we quickly realized that we would be paying a little more of a premium than we had been used to. The next was a tree house style cobana built up high with an amazing balcony over looking the beach. We ended up opting for the second which was a little more expensive but included breaky. We thanked Alessandro (local guy who'd brushed work and was helping us round) and left our bags at the cabana and took off to the grocery store before checking in.
Got back and lugged our back packs up to our tree house and chucked on the boardies to head down the beach for a run and kick of the footy. Stumbled upon a nice resort that we felt obliged to have a quick dip in their pool then carried in our merry way. Stoked after a little endorphin release we were all foaming at the mouth for a beer on the deck. What a spot! Seriously sat out there watching the surf till dark. Bear with cooking duties for the night threw together a tasty chicken risotto. Watched a movie while tucked into our very comfy beds and all agreed that the extra money had certainly been well spent. Actually would have ended up saving money as we did not eat out during our time at maitenecillo at all. Full breakfast the next morning followed by some more surf watching, siestas and another stroll to the grocery shop. The fact I didn't have a board was a little hard to take as the waves looked fun all day. Had to settle for another run and a dip just before beer o'clock. Group effort between myself and bear for dinner. Got the hot coals and grilled some steaks Asado style and I chucked together another rice dish.
We'd made the decision to head further north the next day to la Serena so I definetly Savored one more night of un-interrupted sleep with the soothing sounds of the ocean rocking me into a happy slumber.
