So the last couple of days have been pretty busy. The after school club is officially up and running in the new building we have been working on this past month. Its impressive to see how much the building has changed since work began, which was also my first day of work with the charity so its nice to see the development of the project. We had a meeting about the after shool club on Tuesday night as we are now able to hire a teacher to work with the children to provide professional help with their homework. We also came up with a timetable of activities for those children who are lucky enough not to have homework. It turns out the days that I work their I will be teaching the kids English for the first hour, and for the second hour I have somehow been roped in to helping with dancing...that will only end badly.
Yesterday the rain came and was pretty heavy which meant we had to entertain the kids at the orphanage with games indoors. Its amazing how creative kids can be with a skipping rope, a peice of elastic and a slippy floor! Two hours of chaos ensued but was awesome.
Ever since I got here I have seen this weird creature around. It is basically a dog, joined to another dog, by the bum. The best way to picture it is to picture the 90s cartoon CatDog, and replace the cat with another dog. Its pretty weird. I thought there was only one, so when I told the others about it nobody beleived me. Then on Tuesday when walking through town we saw another 2 dogs in the same situation, this time they were stuck. One dog was on one side of a barbed wire fence, and the other was on the other side. The dogs didnt look in pain but it looked like a pretty compromising, but funny position. Then yesterday on the way to the orphanage there was yet another 2 dogs joint together in this weird way. I came to the conclusion of Siamese dogs as it seemed the most logical explanation. Naturally every time we see it we think it is pretty hilarious, so i decided to share it with my family. I was quickly informed that they are not in fact siamese dogs created due to dodgy inbreeding but it is a result of the two dogs getting it on and it going horribly wrong, which is possibly an even more hilarious.
Tomorrow two of the volunteers, Jess and Rebecca, are leaving so we are having a pancake party tonight. Jess has been here since March and Rebecca came a week after me so will be a little weird minus 2 of the volunteers!
This weekend Elizabeth and I have decided to go to the jungle for the weekend. I am the only volunteer who hasnt been so far so I am pretty excited to go after hearing the stories. On saturday we will be doing a trek through the jungle, aptly named the "Indiana John" tour. From what Ive heard its pretty fun but there is not so much a priority on safety, Sounds like it is going to be one fun weekend!
