Hey everyone we have been falling behind on our blogs a little bit, last time you heard Louise wasn't too well in Penang, however now she is fighting fit and we headed for Melaka!! We booked the cheapest bus we could find and realised it was cheap for a reason! From the outside it looked good but as you stepped inside it was obviously owned by Austin powers, if that wasn't bad enough it squeaked the whole way there!!
There was another English looking couple on the bus with us and they were headed for the same place, thats when the competition started as far as i was concerned and as the bus pulled up to the bus station we jumped off eager to get ahead of this other couple and beat them to the cheap accommodation. We didn't know where we were going but we had a general idea and started trotting along trying to disguise to the other couple that we were in a race, just they didn't know it! Haha our first impressions of Melaka were excellent, we got dropped off in the town square at night and everything was lit up and there was boats going up and down the river. There were tuk tuks just cycling round the town but lit up with all the Christmas lights playing music as they went round. The main street; jonker st was ram packed with all kinds of stalls and it looked a lively little town, there was also Chinese karaoke.
Anyway ................we managed to find a great guest house overlooking the river and louise managed to knock them down from 55 ringgits to 35 ringgits! Saving us 4 pound per night! Thats my girl!! Haha
Luck must of been on our side because the trip to Melaka overlapped onto a weekend which meant they had a massive night market on Saturday and Sunday and the whole main street got closed off for street food, souvenirs and all sorts!!
After we high fived our room lol we headed for the stalls and we spent all night just trying different foods i was a pig!! Haha we had popiah which is a soft spring roll with chicken, pork or crab with other vegetables but they were really good!! Then we saw these amazing spiral potatoes on a skewer best invention ever!!!....apart from the telephone and electricity etc lol they just put a small new potato on a skewer and put it through some kind of peeler like a pencil sharpener then they deep fry it and you can have any dressing you want i had chilli and salt and louise had sea salt and black pepper............so simple yet ...amazing!
The next day we just looked around the town and headed to a near by mall and did general travelling stuff like sorting out laundry, changing our books for new ones and skyping family etc its hard work this travelling! The next day we had one thing in mind and that was the zoo which came highly recommended by our friends we met in langkawi! We were not disappointed it cost us £1.50 to get in and it was the best zoo i had ever seen! Hardly any animals were in cages the monkeys were amazing they just swung from tree to tree and we ventured up this path where it was relatively quiet and this 5ft black monkey waving his arms above his head came walking past us we took a double take, he had obviously jumped the mound of water which was meant to keep him on a secluded island with his trees but he came walking right past us as if we weren't there and he went and stood over the sign where it tells him what type of monkey he is haha and to make it better .....................i caught it all on camera!
On the way out we passed an owl with some yellow fluff hanging out its mouth upon nearer inspection it was actually a little fluffy chick, louise was shocked that the zoo was feeding the owl little chicks and she was even more shocked when she found out they were all alive running around in the bottom of its cage just waiting to be eating.....tweeting away lol
Our last venture in Malaysia was going to take us to the capital kuala lumpur and we booked a bus the following day to take us there.
Love adam and louise xx

mam and dad (m) you say you are getting behind on your blogs-we must be getting behind in reading them as we have just found this one today. jan 19th 2011. even though your mam scans the web every day (and night) looking for them. Sounds like a fabulous place - the zoo in saltwell park was nothing like that. Just some silly rabbits and budgies looking like they were stuffed and unable to move. Those poor chicks ...how awful...i'm never going to eat OWL again the feathers get stuck in my teeth ha ha. cant wait to see the pics and video of the escaped monkey! lots of love mam and dad xxx
Steph Sounds like a bit of monkey business going on there.................... xx
