We got up early and had a camp breaky of cereal and milk before packing up camp and hitting the road around 9.30am. It was sooo muggy overnight. We had the little A/C going in our room all night. At around 5.30am I went for a walk to the bathrooms and put my jacket on to go out, only to find it was stinking hot, at 5.30am?!?!
We drove for around 3 1/2 hours before reaching Austin, Texas. We stopped by a park and had our kitty lunch sangas before heading to the hostel and checking in. We're in a 10 bunk dorm this time, all of us in one room together.
We basically just dumped our gear and headed straight out to check out the town. The girls wanted to go clothes shopping at some vintage 2nd hand clothes shops, so I went with the boys to see the capital and the shops in town. JD dropped us off. Chris, John and I walked around inside the Capital building for awhile and then wandered down the main drag looking at the shops. It was sooooooooo hot. OMG. It felt like about 50 degrees! In the end we went into a bar just to get out of the heat and sat there for half an hour or so before catching the bus back to the hostel.
We had about half an hour to get ready to go out. We caught the bus back into town and went to dinner at a nice restaurant. I had chicken and macaroni something or other, but the chicken was quite spicy.
Then we wandered around trying to find a bar that the under 21's could get into. Sometimes they can get in, but they get big UNDERAGE stamps on their hands. We couldn't find one so in the end the OVERAGE gang decided to leave them to it and we hit the bars ourselves. Chris, John, Lissy & I went to 2 different bars. The 2nd one was doing mechanical bull riding which looked like lots of fun. I would have loved to have a go. Where else would be a good place to bull ride but Texas?!? But too many spectators for my liking!
We called it a night around midnight and decided on a taxi ride back rather than the bus.
I'm excited but a little scared, we're going canoeing tomorrow. I've never done it. I got talked into it coz JD wants to take us to a lovely spot on the other side of the river for a picnic and he assures me it's 100% safe and we won't fall in, and there's cute turtles in there. He's going to take me specially in his canoe :-) And he even said he'd do ALL the paddling... couldn't say no to that ... hahaha :-)
Later,
Tracey.
