We had the best free hotel brekky yet!! Apart from the usual cereal or bagels, there's make your own waffles, lovely pastries, scrambled eggs, yogurt, fruit. Delicious!
We drove to Graceland - the home of the King of Rock n Roll, Elvis Presley. Basically you do an audio tour through his home which was put together really well. You could skip parts, or do extra sections for more info. I spent ages there, which is surprising since I'm not a die hard fan. All his awards on the walls were amazing - so many of them.
He is buried there, alongside his parents, and the grave sites are beautiful.
Then there's all different displays. My favourite was his car collection. Sooo many cars!!! And they are all in such great condition. As well as all his other toys: motorbikes, scooters, tractors, snow mobiles...
We also went on his private plane. It has 24 carot gold seat buckles!!
After a few hours there we returned to the motel for a kitty lunch. Chris & I were the only ones keen to visit Sun Studios where Elvis made his first recordings, so JD drove us and did the tour too. It was only a small studio, but the tour was great. It was amazing to stand in the very studio where Elvis recorded music.
At 5pm we went to the Peabody Hotel. There's a tradition that takes place there. Years ago there was some drunk guys who brought back ducks to the hotel. Not wanting them in their room they put them in the fountain in the foyer to swim and went to bed. They came down the next day expecting the ducks to have been removed, only to find a crowd gathered around the fountain enjoying the ducks. So now they have a team of trained ducks (yes trained ducks!) who live in a specially designed penthouse. At 11am every day they roll out the red carpet for the ducks to emerge out of the lift and walk to the fountain where they spend all day swimming. At 5pm they do the opposite and the ducks all climb out and walk the red carpet to a massive crowd, and get in the lift to retire to their penthouse. It's so cute to watch them lapping up the red carpet attention.
Then some of the gang went to a baseball game and the rest of us went to Beale Street for dinner and a few drinks, before returning to the hotel carpark for a few rounds of corn hole. This time something just clicked and I got my technique happening. Over 2 games I got 9 corn bags in the hole, compared to the other night when I wasn't even
getting them close!! It was alot of fun!
Retired to my room around 11ish.
Luv Tennessee so much!!
Later,
Tracey
