Hey y'all! I'm in America!
My flight to NZ was fine, even with the complimentary screaming baby 3 rows up.
The long leg to San Fran was bearable, as far as long legs go. I was sitting next to a lady who gladly did not enter into chit chat. Sleeping is not the best, and I have no clue how many hours passed. I just remember being freezing and wondering how they get away with calling that flimsy thing a pillow!
Breakky at 3am...now I think that's where I'm all confused...3am by my clock anyway. I never see that time of day. I feel like I've been awake for days. Maybe I have?
An hour and a half lining up at Customs to be greeted by a non friendly, young man was tiring, followed by trying to work the silly ticket machine for the BART train and THEN working out which one to catch...it's hard work! Lucky I wasn't the only one having trouble working it out. The fare I wanted was $8.10, but you don't put in $20 & expect change - well I did, haha. Nooo, you have to put in a $10 then press -$1, -$1, +5c, +5c to = $8.10!
Anyway, caught the train and then had a 20 min walk to my hostel - uphill mind you. Oh yay, a top bunk (dreaded worst nightmare for a clumsy person like me!).
Then I ventured out to see some of San Fran. I caught a street car down to Fisherman's wharf to pick up my city pass ticket that I had cleverly pre-ordered, then wandered around the shops down there, didn't spend a cent, very proud, haha. Oh, yea, that's where the merry-go-round in the pic was.
Stopped for dinner, you wouldn't believe what I saw and just HAD to have... A peanut & jelly sanga!! Actually it was pretty yum!
Back to my room where I met 2 of my roomies, 1 from Norway & 1 from Germany. The 4th girl is apparently from Taiwan, so from all over! The German has decided to go to Alcatraz with me tomorrow, so that beats going alone!
Oh boy, that turned into a novel! Oops! I'm off to get some sleep now, and it's only just gone 9pm - so tired from all the excitement (ha, it hasn't even begun yet...)
Later
Tracey.

Brad Forgot to tell you that about the train ticket machine. Watch out when you get to JFK it is the same deal. Don't put in a $20 as you will get NO change just $20 credit on your ticket. Just make sure you have the right change for the sky train then subway at JFK.
Rachel love your journal. had a few chuckles, can imagine you there at the machine and then looking at the top bunk! btw. is the peanut and jelly - jelly or jam?
Michelle Bissaker Hi Glad you landed safely. The fishermans wharf do you know the show "full House" well they filmed some of the scenes there and then you will get to see those houses that are together and it's very hilly all over san fran. the Alcatraz jail that would be interesting to see. San fran is 17 hours behind Sydney just a reminder lol. Have a good time dear :)
Tracey Rach, it's jam I think, not Jelly as we know it, the wobbly kind in the bowl!
