Well Jem and I have changed our jobs again!! For the past week I have been working in Arthur's Pizza's - famous in Sydney for being the best pizza's in town. I'm just going to work there 3 nights a week as well as the housekeeping as it's better money than the juice bar and we get great tips!! The pizza's are delicious, as are the pasta's and salads. There's a lovely family atmosphere and it's lots of fun. It was hard leaving the juice bar as I'd met some great people but our main aim is to save as much money as possible to continue travelling.
Jem did his last shift at Kemeny's wine shop yesterday and on Monday he will start work as the assistant manager of a great little wine shop called Five Ways Cellars in Paddington. There'll be much more opportunity to try the wines and make contacts. Jem's over the moon and can't wait to start. He'll be able to walk to work, have his lunch at home, it's better money and better hours so it's the right decision and his old boss at Kemeny's understands that.
You'll all be glad to hear that it's been raining here for the past few days and it doesn't look like it's ever going to stop. The surfers are still out but it's not good for the tan!
I've visited a few more places in Sydney including the amazing Botanical Gardens, Paddy's Market which has a brilliant food market, Chinatown and Manly to meet up with an old school friend, Laura and her husband who now live there. At the moment there's lots of events happening in chinatown to celebrate the Chinese New Year. I visited the Chinatown market in Belmore Park on Friday and next Sunday there's a big parade. I'm working but I might catch a bit of it.
Last Saturday (26th January) was Australia Day, I was unfortunatley working in the day but Jem and I had a great night out on the town with Guy and Helen. Then on Sunday we met up with our friends Tasha and Andy who are travelling round Oz on their honeymoon. It was so good to catch up on all the gossip from home!
On Wednesday night we met up with some friends and went to the outdoor cinema in Bondi Pavillion to watch Bra Boys which is a documentary about a gang of surfers from a suburb in Sydney called Maroubra. The gang, called the Bra Boys, was formed in the 1960's and the film tells their story. It was good to watch and hear the story from the gang members prospective!! They were mainly kids from deprived families who came together with their passion for surfing!! Afterwards we got a free drink in Ravesi's bar in Bondi and had a couple more for the road!
A guest at the hotel left their boogy board and my boss gave it to me, so you never know I may well be joining the Bra Boys gang once I've mastered a few moves!!!!! Watch this space.
I've been really getting into my lattes and the cafe culture over here. I really love just reading my paper in the cafes. Give Jem a scooner any day!!
Better go but hope you're all well and the night's aren't too dark and miserable!!
lots of love from us xxxxxxxx
