Another stupidly early morning, YEAY! The road was the Stuart highway and it was LONG!!! with nothing between stops and stops were rare. Our first however was fun and exciting.

It was up until about 30 years ago a top secret site for testing weapons!!! Woooo. Its called Woomera. We saw replicas of lots of war things, not my cup of tea but it was quite cool that it was previously unknown.

Next was the Salt Lake. These are left from the central ocean that had covered much of the centre millions of years ago. SO COOL. Lots of fun photos and off we go again! KEEP TO THE SCHEDULE!

And so we arrived in Coober Pedy, the opal mining capital of the world! This plave is so cool. Where its in the middle of boiling nowhere, a lot of the houses are under ground in caves and in the side of hills!. We toured the mining museum and saw an example of an underground home. It was really interesting, I didn't even know what Opal was until this week!

So of course it wouldn't be any fun of we didn't get chance to noodle for our own Opals! And turns out we're quite good at it. Nothing of too much value but a german guy found one worth thousands there not long ago. Noodling was hot work. So we were all ready for our accomodation and a drink.

The hostel was UNDER GROUND! hehe, it was awesome. Very cool. Coober Pedy was my first experience of Aboriginals and it was a little bit of a shock. There history is so sad, where stupid arrogant white man comes along and riuns their whole way off life. Aboriginals are traditionaly a nomadic people, so they don't understand boundaries. When the whites came along they forced the Aboriginals to live a way they didn't know how, often being met by hosility and eventually in many cases, whole tribes were slaughtered. In Coober Pedy many roam the streets, attempting to fit into some kind of half life. Alcohol has been another downfall for them. Most are now alcoholics. So Coober Pedy was great fun, but a horrifying reminder of our dark past as a bunch of murders!
