My birthday was just round they corner so I decided I didn't want to spend it in the city. We'd heard from a day tripper to South Sea Island in Fiji, that the beaches north of Sydney were really beautiful, but to go a bit more north to avoid the crowds. We checked our faithful guide book and it listed them, Avalon won our vote so we jumped on a bus and headed on our way.
Avalon is a really nice sea side town. It was little cafes and fun little shops and a really cool hostel. When we arrived we were so pleased we made the right choice. The beach wasn't what we were used to, it was rough and perfect for surfing, not bathing. We sat for ages watching the surfers battle with the waves.
On my birthday we decided to check out the next beaches north, after a complicated bus search, we settled for one and when we got there we realised that there wasn't anything but beach, Palm Beach. It was still beautiful though, we messed around on the beach and had some lunch and headed back. We had the biggest yummiest ice cream in all the land.
That evening we went for a lush Indian meal. I had a great birthday. It was wired to be away from home, but that in itself made it something else completely so I didn't feel like I was missing out. Thanks to everyone for all there messages they were so lovely to know that we're still thought of even from the other side of the world, it means a lot.
And that was the Northern Beaches. xxxx
