AUSTRALIA! Woohoo.
We arrived in Oz unaware that it was Mardi Gras, one of the biggest weekends in the Sydney calender, so of course everywhere was really booked up! Luckily, as usual, we found somewhere calle dBoomerang that was near the centre.
We spent the next couple days doing the tourist thing. The opera house was never something that really appealed to me but of course we went there to say we'd done it and in fact it is beautiful. Nothing like I expected, and alongside harbour bridge its quite a sight. As we were in the tourist mood we decided to jump on a ferry and go to the zoo.
So glad we did, it was so much fun, we spent hours looking round at all the animals. It was a great day. We also went to the Chinese friendship garden in china town which was gorgeous. So peaceful in a manicly busy city. We also went to Paddy's Markets and generally wondered around what felt like the whole city! We even went on the monorail, fun fun fun.
Mardi Gras itself was mad. We found a spot, hours before it started and waited patiently. The atmosphere was amazing, SO MANY PEOPLE. The streets were lined with people and police all waiting. Just as it was about to start though, I began to feel cronically ill, so we had to go! RUBBISH! People said it was quite a spectical, although I'm not sure I would have enjoyed some of it.
All in all, considering we don't like cities, I really enjoyed Sydney. Its not as souless as the others, maybe we caught it at a good time, there seems to be more here, more culture I guess.
