Check it out. We are somewhere else apart from Noosa....and we've done some stuff that is of interest! So hopefully if people are still reading our entries they will a bit more interesting and no more talk of strawberries!!
So after leaving Noosa; the house, the point break and of course Fiona's infamous rubber willy, we packed all our belongings into the van and hoped that after her service and new battery we got her that i wouldnt be f'ing and blinding at 6 in the morning running down the hill pushing the van with my He-Man muscle arms! And so our first stop was Rainbow bay where we would stay the night and meet our group before departing for our 4WD fraser island safari. Well i guess our group was ok but not ideal as in the 8 we had 4 young german lads with a liking for german gangsta rap! But as they were young they couldnt drive so that was all good! Driving on the really soft sand was quality, especailly when i got us stuck as the tide was fast approaching! We saw all the main sites on fraser; the Maheno ship wreck, the ocean views up indian head with the whales, the fresh water lakes of Mckenzie and Wabi and a big gorge of sand (see pics). It was good fun but we were ready for a shower when we got back! On our first night of 2 on the island we camped up by the beach next to 3 other trucks, 2 of which consisted of 18 irish guys who successfully drunk beer for the whole 3 days! They were mad to say the least, and of course dragged us down with them! All the goon was gone and my memory is a blank for a large part of the night, i do remember waking in the morning though under a sheet of tarpoulene that was used to secure the stuff on the roof rack; clearly i didnt like the tents we had erected! The next night was more subdued and we were looking forward to getting back in the van and on the road in search of some waves.
3 days to kill before flying to sydney, so we thought we'd head to Byron to hang out with the hippies and dance on the tables at cheeky monkeys! We've been sleeping rather unconspicuosly in the van in amongst the byron streets and living the high life. Been packing in plenty of surfing time, racking up 3 surfs yesterday! We've had Tallows at 4ft, broken head and even gone for a chilled sess at the Pass and at Watergoes beach! Got a beauty of a barrel at Tallows, nice and deep with good tunnel vision and only got the slightest of clippings on the head on the way out!! Been surfing with pro surfer Keiron Perrow (for those who know he is) and chatting with some old boys (including pro surfer Todd Prestige's dad!) who love to hear the tales of surfing in the winter in england.
We saw a joy rider spin round the corner yesterday (as we were shopping for some clean shorts for becky), driving through the high street with one wheel missing - he was quickly persued by the cops and it felt like a proper episode of The Bill! We got a little worried when he jumped out of the car and ran and the car crashed into a van which we thought was ours....luckily it wasnt, but becky was having kittens!!
The tans are coming on nicely and surfing in boardies again is what its all about! Gotta get up at 4.30am tomoz to fly to sydney to meet mark and aurlie and watch the womens WCT there. After 4 nights on the trot in the van, we are going to stay in a nice B&B, at which the shower will no doubt be first stop! So that should be great fun.
Yep, spirits are high as theres no more work and its feeling like a proper surf trip again! (we even had the classic tuna pasta to christen this!!)
