BUDAPEST: The city was amazing! I went to Budapest with low expectations just thinking this will be the only time I go to Hungary. The guide books said not to expect a lot of English speakers so I didn't expect a lot of tourists. Budapest surprised me because there was so much to see, the city was clean and we had no problem finding English speakers. I wish we would have had more time and I would even go back to Budapest if I had the chance. There is a lot of history there. During World War II 80% of the city was bombed but they have rebuilt and it's beautiful. On one side of the Danube River is Buda where you find the castle district and more residential side of the city. On Pest side you find Parliament, the baths, and more nightlife. Friday we took a hop on hop off bus tour through the city. The population is 2 million so it was the first city we couldn't just walk everywhere we wanted to go. The tour also gave good information about what we were looking at and the history of Budapest. Some of my pictures aren't very good because I was taking pictures as we drove by.
Our hostel was not good but not bad enough to leave. My bunk smelled like a sweaty gym and community bath is always weird. So after the first night I decided I was not coming back to the hostel until I was so exhaused I was going to just pass out! We met other travelers from Ireland and Canada so that was the only good thing about being in a hostel. We all went out on Saturday night to a big outdoor bar/club that looks more like an entrance to a subway until you get close and look down on all the people sitting on steps and tables. It was a lot of fun and great laid back place.
Sunday we just got up and stopped at McDonalds before catching our train back to Innsbruck. I took a picture of the breakfast sandwich because I thought it was weird that it was just bread, cheese and a couple strips of bacon. There was no egg in their breakfast.
I recommend you all go to Budapest. There were 6 of us travelling and we were all surprised by how much there was to see and what a great time we had. The city is underrated!
This week I am going to Vienna, Austria.
