Probably the weirdest place I have ever seen. We were told the people here are decedents of a Finnish group that settled in the 1800's and they are all really laid back, someone had suggested the island was full of stoners. There are about 800 people live there. The houses are a right funny mix of really well built big homes and very odd looking shacks. We saw Elk all over in the scrub, peoples gardens and even on the porches. The weirdest house looked like something from a slasher movie with loads of drift wood carvings and cow skulls with horns decorating the front. The old bird from Skinning grove with the dolls heads has nothing on this gaf! Dad said he could smell the wood burner, I thought they were boiling the bones of the last tourists that hung about here... Time to move on. We had Bison burgers while we waited for the ferry (well that's what the menu said it was)
I have been practicing my Canadian... So far I have "hey!! Buddy!" off to a fine art. I would have tried my physic powers on these folk but inbreeding had removed their ear lobes.
It did have similarities with Skelton though, it has the oldest Co-op in Canada and the fire station is right next to it.
After this, a big drive back down the island to look at some parrots.
