Early start wasn't what I was planning on but it seems Dad has insomnia
Showered and refreshed we set of to Tofino. This is by far the most scenic road I have ever had the pleasure to drive along, mountains were reflected in the lakes with the early morning sun, streams were flowing strong alongside many parts of the road and the mountains surrounded us. We got high up and snow was still on the roadside.
Over on the west coast we walked the petrified forest for a while through to the beach. This area is a top surfer dude place and as we moved up the coast we stopped at a few surfer beaches. I notice a massive wolf like animal standing beside a car Dad approached and asked if he could photo the animal and what breed was it? It was infact a wolf!!
There were quite a few roadworks on the way up to Tofino, instead of using traffic lights at roadworks as we do at home the island people have a different approach... They get the toughest looking women to stare you down and wave a stop sign at you, then when you can move on again they wave and point at you till you get the message you are allowed to leave.
Tofino was nice dad sniffed out the loo's and I rang home. Then we wandered around for a bit and before taking on the tough roadwork ladies again on the road down to Ucelet.
Now Ucelet was very impressive compared to what we expected there are plenty of boats moored and a couple of seaplanes, lovely harbour. Around the west side there are some amazing seacoves. I got my naked shot! We watched a seal nosey about the fishing boats before swimming out to the open water.
Across the bay is Port Albion, it looked impressive so we thought we'd check it out. Well..... On closer inspection it was Hill Billy town, loads of shabby old shacks with the dogs curled on the porches, all that was missing was the old lady sat in the rocking chair. I swear I heard the banjo playing. It did turn out to be the best decision of the day to go there, on the way out we pulled over to look at an old broken boat against the shore and just to our right we watched a few bald eagles on the shore, they moved on sharpish after they saw us mind. Moving on again we detoured along a logging road for a while and spotted a couple of bear cubs messing about in a clearing ..... They made a sharp exit too? we hung around Hoping to see them again, I had my foot over the gas peddle just incase mummy bear decided to take on the Toyota but they didn't return, I can only assume their porridge had cooled. .
We headed back across route 4 again this time Dad drove and I enjoyed the views .... Fantastic!
When we stopped for a bite to eat later I introduced Dad to Subways .... He's now converted so I'd look to buy shares in Guisbrough branch now. Another 60/70 miles drive up highway 19 and we stopped at a motel, complete with the dog on the porch.
Oh and it started to rain...... Wish I'd brought me brolly
