After a quick breakfast at the hotel, we walked to the train station for our trip to Berlin. Only takes 1hr 45 mins to go most of the way across the country, gotta love the fast trains in Europe.
When we arrived, we decided to go on a hop on hop off tour of the city. It has 20 stops, but we barely had time to see a few. We passed the Bellvue Palace, a flea market area, and got off at the Charlottenburg Castle. While the castle itself is not open to the public, the grounds and gardens are beautiful, and you could spend a day there. After nearly a couple of hours we board the bus and go through an antiques area, shopping areas, German Resistance Memorial, Berlin Wall remains, and memorial, and the Jewish museum.
We decided to get off at checkpoint Charlie for a photo, cheesy I know but you have to do it.
We then drive through the designer shopping area, but I'm not allowed off for a look as it is already 2pm. We jump off for a quick Maccas, and back into the tour.
The next stop we get off at it the East side Gallery, part of the Berlin Wall that was decorated by artists. Some of the paintings are iconic, and when you stand next to it you realise how big it was, even though behind all the reinforcements have gone.
We drive past the huge town hall of Berlin, the German Historical Museum, State Library, Holocaust Memorial, and the Brandenburg Gate.
We get a pretty good look at these things from the bus, but time has got away, and arrive back at the station for the trip back to Hamburg, I don't know where the 8 hours went.
We've all had a good day, but are really tired. It doesn't feel like you should be this tired but its 9pm and the sun is still up. It gets light about 4.30am, which probably explains why I'm up every day at that time........
