When we arrived on site today, we were introduced to chalky paint, quick dry caulk, and a sand shifter with holes in it. We scattered like a shot gun and stumbled our way through the morning. Roberto left the gringos to themselves to figure it out! Randy (aka Rod), Barb and Paul (yes, he's still alive) led us through front, side, and back end of this project today.
Soon enough, the work became easy as the smiles came out and we let our passion lead us through the day. Uno, Dos, Tres, Cuatro!!! The kids warmed our hearts and the morning struggles turned into pride as we finished the painting, and heard from the homeowner -- how grateful she was we were there and she felt God brought us there to build her home!
We finished our day with a trip to the Mercado -- many deals were made as we negotiated price, some more successful than others. Accordingly to our affiliate, we spent the last two days with the richer of the poor....tomorrow we will see the truly poor people as we try to insprire the painting of 800 Habitat homes as we carry the message of community volunteering!
