It took us 3-4 hours to reach Mysore and we checked into our accommodation Treebo Spectrum Suites and had an hour to freshen up.
We then piled into our van and headed to the Mysore Palace. It was crazy to imagine the life as a Maharaja on a guided tour of the Mysore Palace. It was the most stunning Palace I have ever been too! It was rich in colour and so well looked after! Every room was full of so much pattern and detail, it was stunning! This stunning palace was the home of the Maharajas of Mysore, the former royal family, which ruled from 1399 to 1950.
After the palace we headed straight to the Chamundeshwari Temple, which is located on top of Chamundi Hills just outside Mysore. The architecture was amazing, it was yellow stone and full of detail, kind of shaped like a rectangle! There was a massive queue outside so we didn’t go inside. There was even monkeys tampering with people in the queue. I was pretty impressed, I saw a monkey, grab a water bottle, unscrew the lid and drink it!
Outside we saw many people smashing coconuts. It is also known Mahafala, or great fruit to be offered to god.
Later, we visited the temple of Nandi the Bull (ridden by the Hindu god Shiva). This was literally a giant stone ball which people worship, was the strangest temple I had ever seen.
On our way back we stopped off at a view point to see the whole of Mysore, it was pretty impressive.
Our last stop was the Devaraja fruit and vegetable market, this was crazy busy and all the fruit and veg looked pristine. I did hear that some people in India, inject there fruit to make it more colourful!
