We all woke up early in Bikaner and got a train to Jaisalmer which took approximately 6.5 hours. Taking the train was an interesting event, it was freezing cold and there was a lot of pushing to get your bags in compartments.
We arrived in Jaisalmer ready to explore the ancient city. We checked into our hotel (Mahadev Palace, H-3, RICCO, Jethwai Road) which was very comfortable. We had a free day. So we had time to relax around the hotel and stroll into the town.
Jaislemer is known as the golden city as all buildings are made of yellow sandstone in the heart of the Thar Desert. We looked around at the city and all got a boat on the river which was very relaxing.
That evening we went to a museum
Which was run by a local teacher. He created this museum with all that he collected. He took us around and we learnt a lot of new things.
Different colour turbans are worn in different areas of India. Bindi spots are worn when you visit a religious place or if someone is blessing you. The red bindi is used by many young girls to show beauty.
After the meseum visit, most people went onto eat but Elenor, Sofia and I decided to stay to watch the traditional puppet show. This was suppose to be a half an hour showing but in Indian time it ended up being an hour and a half. It was interesting just watching the show, as people arrived late and walked to the front having conversations whilst the show was playing. The puppetry was amazing, but it was hard to follow what was going on.
After the show we went and joined the others in a restaurant. We got there by tuk tuk up a really bumpy road. Our tuk tuk driver was a trendy young boy, who was playing Justin Beiber at full volume throughout the streets of Jailsemere. The food there was great. Girri our guide gave us all friendship bracelets which was really sweet of him! We then all mounted into tuk tuks back to the Hotel, ours was like the part tuk tuk, he played some very hip Rajasthan music all the way home!
