Today was one of the first days in Mumbai out of the two I have. Bearing in mind I was in Goa that morning, I was working on two hours sleep!
I checked into my hostel ‘Backpacker Panda’ it had only been opened for three days, so they were ever so accommodating! The room was nice too, I noticed in Mumbai the room shared can be with workers too! I was in the area called Colaba.
I first walked the Colaba Causeway, this was a vast street with lots and lots of stalls and shops. It was pretty hectic to walk through as people were asking if you wanted to look all the time! I then went for lunch nearby at a famous restaurant called the Leopold cafe which has been round since 1871, it’s one of the most popular restaurants in Mumbai! There was even a bag scanner as you walked in! I had palak Paneer and nann’ it was great!
I then went over to see the Gateway to India, this was huge! Jut as big as the one in Dalhi! There again you had to go through bag checks. Once I was in I felt like a celebrity, lots of families and young boys wanting selfies and photos!
I then went and looked at the Taj Mahal Palace, it was beautiful! The building was huge and very ornate. I went to the front entrance and they allowed em to go inside and have a look. Security was very tight there, all my bags and myself had to go through a scanner. As you walk inside you are welcomed by a hug staircase and then off of the staircase are rows of shops - very very expensive shops. It was all marble inside with lavish window displays.
I then sped walked to a place called Marine Drive. This is a long long road along the coast line and you can see the buildings on Mumbai. It was a half an hour walk and I got there and managed to miss the sunset! Even though I missed the sunset, it was lovely too see how beautiful it was! I walked a fair way and then decided I better walk back to my hostel before dark.
As I walked back to the hostel about half 6, I realised that it was safe to walk. It was the posh area of Mumbai I was told and the streets were packed with workers on their commute home. I did walk down some quieter roads but walked on the street instead of the paths for safety.
As I approached the hotel I stopped in a restaurant for dinner, I had a great pizza, it was a ratatouille pizza, it was very nice. I then made my way back to the hotel as I was so so tired from my commute!
