Hello!!
We are now in Vang Vieng, tubing capital of the world!! We arrived on monday after a much more pleasant 6 hour bus journey, although the road was bendy and bumpy! Found a cheap but nice guest house and had a look around in the evening. Vang Vieng is very small but quite a party place! Anyway we had an earlyish night and yesterday morning went off to get our tubes! They were loaded onto the top of a tuk tuk and we were taken to the start, about 3km up the river to the first bar. We were barely over the bridge before being given shots of tiger whiskey (bluh!).. and that was a sign of things to come! After a beer and about an hour sunning ourselves we jumped back into the tubes and floated down the river to the next bar, not very far at all!! People in the bars throw a rope out to you and pull you in which is a good job otherwise I would of been at the bottom of the river in no time!! So the day went on like this, some of the bars had slides into the river and a zip line type thing which was fun! One slide Kayleigh and I decided to go down together one behind the other (just for moral support!) but when we got to the bottom the boys were there to tell us off!...apparently its really dangerous to do it together!..anyway we were fine and went seperately the second time! Our tubes had to be back by 6pm to get the deposit back but before we knew it it was half 5 and were told by a man at the bar we had over an hour still to float down! So we went to get our tubes and they were gone!! Managed to get 3 back but couldn't find a fourth so Tom had to go without.. Needless to say he was not happy about this, it also didn't help matters that he lost his vest and sunglasses too! Started to panic when it very quickly got dark and we were still on the river (sorry mum if your reading this it was very silly and we wont be doing it again!!) Kayleigh and Andy had floated ahead of us and we couldn't see them anymore..even more scary! Then we saw a light flashing on the side of the river, a rope was thrown out and a man was shouting "tuk tuk?"...I know tuk tuk drivers can be a pain but I've never been so glad to see someone!!! We got the tuk tuk back with some other strays who had also been pulled out of the river! After getting into town there was more panic as Andy and Kaylee weren't back, luckily we bumped into them coming down the road after a little while, phew!!
Over all a really fun day, I think we are going to do it again but this time start earlier, definitely be back by 6 o clock and guard our tubes at the bars so no one can nick them!!
Having a relaxing day today :)
Speak to you all soon xxxxxxxxxxx
