San Francisco is without doubt, the best American city we have visited yet! It has heart and soul.
The architecture is awesome, the trams and the huge hills which devide the city into blocks are really unique and the Golden Gate Bridge is epic!
Alcatraz looks onto the city, surrounded by ocean and beaten by all sides by sweeping waves. Frightening place. I'd like to see Tim Robbins escape from there like he did in the Shawshank Redemption...
We had checked into a Motel 6 just out of town as prices were sky high because of the end of the Gay Pride Festival..... Alex was gutted he missed it. As we approached and we were greeted by an armed security guard and locked entrance, we began to think we may have made a boo boo.
Luckily Rob had a mate in the city who we ended up staying with that night. Rick was a great guy. In fact, Rick had only last week been mugged at gun point just outside our Motel. Needless to say, we were grateful for the use if his sofas!
We had a great night out with Rick and his mates. The city was awesome. Rick lived just off of Haight Ashbury, where the hippie movement all started back in the 60's. It was a really funky, chilled out place.
The next day, one of Ricks mates took us on a huge tour of the city and shared his local knowledge. Again, a genuinely smashing lad.One of the most memoriable moments was Dophin spotting. We watched the small group splash about and play until they were out of sight.
We had to pick up yet another car that evening. Destiny needed an oil change, so we upgraded in a big way! For the last few days I would be driving a 6 litre Dodge Challenger. Bright orange with black go faster stripes!
No soft roof, but with the amount of noise that thing made, you wouldn't want the roof down! Unless you liked bleeding ears of course....
We also went on a Geek Tour for Rob. San Fran is home to Google, Microsoft, Apple, Facebook and pretty much any other I.T based company you can think of.
San Fran was also home to the 4 foot burrito..... We had to convince Rob to leave the shop. Kicking and screaming, we got him back into the car.
Our final morning was spent checking out 'The Mission'. Its known as a ghetto type area but we loved all the artistic graffti and funky shops.
And then it was time to go. Ginge Revved her engine, and off we set, back to the land of failing dreams.... Los Angeles!
Peace and Facebook
