San Diego was a quick drive, a few hours down interstate 10, along the west coast and into the city.
We had our first taste of a Motel 6, which we would end up using all over the country,
The day we arrived we spent in the motel pool and sussing out our new environment.
The evening was spent in a restaurant, where out attempt to order a glass of water turned into a 5 minute confused discussion.
It was only when I stepped in and said, 'you know, like the ocean.... Water???'
'.......ooh waadder, no problem,' replied the waitress.
We never realised how much of a language barrier there was going to be, considering we are all speaking the same language...
The mixture of our accent and her being Hispanic made ordering Vodka and ordering water, quite difficult to differentiate... and also quite an exciting drinking game of roulette, you never know what youre gunna get.
20% tip well deserved in my opinion....
We were surprised by how many Hispanic Americans there has been. Almost everyone is Mexican, and the white American demographic we all see on tv just doesn't seem to exist!!! Not in these here parts anyways! Still yet to see a single stereotypical white trash American..... Yet.....
The next day we crossed the Bridge into the other side of San Diego, where we chilled on the beach and admired the beautiful houses and picturesque neighbourhoods. Everyone worked for American Aviation, all flying the stars and stripes outside their awesome homes.
It was truly Top Gun. Maverick
The beach time was interrupted every 5 seconds by low flying aircraft. It was like Eastbourne Air Born, but with sand instead of pebbles.
Poor Rob got third degree burns. Living in Scotland means that the last time he felt direct sunlight was sometime in the 80s. It was inevitable....
The next stop is somewhere in Arizona...... We plan to drive 5hours and see what we find.
The temperature is going to be around 100f in the desert. Better pack plenty of Rum, you know, to stay hydrated and that.
Peace and fajitas
