We had a bright early start for our two day trip between Sydney and Melbourne. Most people tend to fly between the two cities but we wanted to see Canberra- the capital city even though we have heard it is not the most exciting capital in the world.
Our first stop was Canberra, just to give you all a bit of history from across the globe...Canberra became the capital in 1901 when the federation of Australia occured. Basically a decision could not be made as to which city should become the capital (Sydney or Melbourne) so the Aussies being the Aussies decided to make a completely new capital which had to be at least 100 miles from either City and so Canberra was formed!
Moving on...Canberra was a nice clean city although you probably would not want to spend more than a day there. We went to the museum which was quite interesting but we didnt have much time there. Then we went to the war memorial which we both found really interesting and we were enjoying the walk around until Michelle decided to show her English hooliganism roots and climbed on one of the displays, she set off an alarm and the guard swiftly chastised her!!! Take into consideration there were displays that we could have pics with and this looked like one of them but we soon realised it was not! After the war memorial we went to Parliament and had the grand tour by our Oz Experience bus driver. The Parliament building was built with a lot meaning to it as you walk through the front which symbolises the past and the further in you go there are representations of the future.
After parliament we left Canberra and went to Lake Jindabyrne for our over night stop. We stayed in Lake Jindabyrne Hotel Motel! This is by far the best place we have stayed on the whole trip we even got fluffy towels and soap!!!! We had a walk by the lake which was beautiful and then had a a really nice dinner and spent the rest of the night playing pool and table tennis. I wouldnt say our table tennis skills were to hot as most of the game was running across the pub after the ball! We played pool for hours and had a doubles match with some Aussies we met. We had the nicest sleep in such comfy beds and in the morning we had a 'real' cooked brekky...well actually we had ceral as well!!!
This morning we headed up to the snowy mountains, yes guys it does actually snow in Australia and they even have ski resorts up here but only for half the year. We walked 10km in total and the walk killed us especially as it was up hill! Michelle struggled at the first hurdle which was crossing a river on rocks but she managed to make it with the help of the bus drivers hand! It was a really beautiful walk but it was soooo cold and not exactly what we expected when booking our trip to Oz but the temperature made it feel like home hehe!
Our next stop was Lakes Entrance before arriving here we went koala spotting and saw some in the wild! We had the closest to 'real' fish and chips that we have had so far in Oz, followed by a huge slice of mars bar swirl cake which we couldnt manage so the rest of the group feasted on it too!
In the morning we went to the beach and took a few pictures at sunrise before making our way to Wilsons Prom. When we got to Wilsons Prom we went to an area where there were wild wombats!!! We searched the fields trying to find some, the search was unsuccessful although we spotted a few roos and many wombat burrows. To my delight though when back on the bus we saw a wombat by the road, it was so cute! The rest of the walk was nice and Michelle, Emily and I sang lots of songs as before on the bus we played name that tune! At the end of the walk we arrived at squeaky beach, which is really squeaky!
We then headed to our next destination...Melbourne- home of Ramsay Street yay!
