All has been well since we arrived (contrasting somewhat with the boat journey over here, for which we were overcharged and then had the boat break down within sight of the island which entailed a half hour wait in a broken boat on a rough sea; however after half and hour they managed to quell the engine fire and get us going again): the beach is clean and sandy, the food is tasty and not too pricey,...

We have been relaxing in Singapore for the last three days. There's isn't a great deal to see here in terms of sights, but plenty of retail opportunities. We have been to the zoo and also the botanical gardens, where we visited the orchid garden. We had a lovely time in Ubud. We went to a dance show one evening: there was a large group of male singers sitting in a large circle chanting, and a number of figures in costume who would appear in the circle to act out the story. Afterwards there was a 'trance dance' which consisted of a man dancing on burning coconut husks (and generally kicking them towards the spectators and nearly setting fire to some of them, including me!).
