Hi, we have been relaxing and really enjoying our week at Bentota. We met up with Zoe's Mum and Dad and found a nice guest house near to their posh hotel! The beach is golden sand gently sloping into a lovely warm sea, and virtually deserted as all the sunloungers etc are kept inside the hotel grounds. We have been generally doing not very much in Bangladesh since we last wrote a postcard. We had to cancel our trip to Pahapur, an ancient Buddhist monastery site, because there was a 'hartal' (a strike), which is apparently one of the quintessential experiences of any visit to Bangladesh. Hello from Bangladesh! We were delayed flying in to Dhaka. I also nearly missed the plane when we stopped in Chittagong by being on the toilet, but we got to Dhaka eventually and managed to find a hotel at about 11pm. We are currently in Kolkata Airport awaiting our (delayed) flight to Bangladesh, so this is goodbye to India. We haven't been doing much in Kolkata. Greetings from Kolkata (also known as Calcutta). We arrived here yesterday on a flight from Delhi - the most civilized way to travel across India, what? We've been taking it easy today - had a lovely lunch on a 10th floor rooftop terrace restaurant (from where we could watch the smog lifting), watched some cricket on the Maidan (big green area in the centre of the city) and then went for a coffee and cake.
