Hello Everyone...
We know it looks like we've been in Melbourne the whole time, but honestly we haven't! Stayed here until Monday 29th October when we picked up our campervan (which for informations sake, does not have a loo!) and headed down to the Great Ocean Road. Our first stop was Queenscliff which was stunning and the campsite was awesome too although it really hit home how cold it can get in a campervan!! We were frozen on Tuesday morning...it's lucky our Melbourne Mummy had given us an extra blanket to take with us!
A gorgeous day of driving on Tuesday, stopping at a few places for photos and chill out time then staying in the bird poo ridden Wye River campsite... We cooked our dinner that night on an open bbq which was awesome but this kookabura was watching very closely sitting about 2 feet away... we both must have looked away from our food for a second and it swooped in and stole a sausage from the saucepan...it was unbelievable! Merry is the King of the bushes he and all that! Plus there was a Koala in a tree just near us too which made for a rather memorable cooking session!
Wednesday was by far the most amazing day...it was none stop stunning scenery and the obvious sights too..! It was a magical day and we are so thrilled that we came out here a bit ealrier to do the GOR, it was just incredible. We thought all the sights had finished and it was just a straight drive to our next campsite but we stopped at the Bay of Matyrs and it was just spectacualr..the sun was in the perfect spot, there was mist from the waves and it felt so peaceful...certainly worth the visit.
Thursday, it was up to the Grampians with a stop off on the way where we met this couple who seemed to be soaking wet so we asked them what they were doing and they said "walking around Australia", they were doing it in aid of draught stricken farmers and it would take them 2 years...a very humbling experience espeically when we had our campervan! Very memorable. The to the Mackensie Falls where I promptly decided to fall down and stair and twist my ankle which was entertaining considering the amount of steps we had climbed down to get there...the way back up was not fun! Well worth the walk, a calming and stunning spot.
On Friday we headed back to Melbourne for the night as we wanted to go down the Morninton Peninsula to go to some wineries and see the scenery down there on Saturday. So we headed off and then the rain came, it did not stop from the moment we left until about 5pm on the Sunday. It was a severe storm which actually saw flooding in many places and tents in most campsites flying from one end of the site to the other. Not a nice night in it's own right but on top off all that...one of the windows was jammed open and we hadn't realised so we got completely soaked in bed. Obviously it was all over my side so I was drenched completely...as was the bed, all the covers the wooden seat underneath, our towels, the curtains...we could go on! It was a disastrous night so we didn't stay for the extra night and came running back to the home comforts of Melbourne!
But let's not forget our detour to Ramsey Street on Friday...it was so awesome! oOr Gold as they say here! That's all I can say about that!
Now it's Tuesday...Melbourne Cup Day, the only Bank Holiday in the World due to a sporting event! And everyone is planning on a big day of drinking...after a heavy night we had a Champagne breakfast (Tim's fry ups are now an Oz legend!!).
Off to the Yarra Valley tomorrow, then Tasmania on Saturday....it is just great!!
Missing you all loads...
All our love..
